Sharing Jesus Christ with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and Beyond

Coast-to-coast there are more than 560 domestic dependent nations that sit within our exterior borders- they consist of Native American Tribes.  Many of these regions are plagued by poverty, illness, alcohol addiction, high suicide rates, spiritual confusion and hopelessness.  Yet, in Jesus Christ, there is genuine hope for those living within these nations.  By the Lord's leading Calvary Chapel Fellowship was established by Pastor Chug and Karen Garreau more than 25 years ago.  The Garreaus, (both Lakota people and members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe) attended and graduated from the Calvary Albuquerque School of Ministry in 1993.  Shortly after their graduation, with a burning passion in their heart to reach their people for Jesus Christ, the Garreaus returned to their home nation as missionaries with support from Calvary Albuquerque’s Global Adventures ministry.  For more than twenty years the Garreaus have lived and worked within the Cheyenne River Sioux nation, faithfully sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Garreau and his wife have a heart and vision to communicate Truth For the Nations by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with other Native peoples and to strengthen the Church within Native American reservation communities.  There is no question that many within the over 560 Native American Nations that are spread across this continent will respond to the call of God in Christ. We can see this reality evidenced in the Apostle John’s vision when he wrote, “I looked, and here was an enormous crowd that no one could count, made up of persons from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb dressed in long white robes, and with palm branches in their hands” (Rev 7:9).  Make no mistake, God is already doing a work among Native American nations.
